Short Info About Suzlon
Suzlon Energy: A Journey from textile company to becoming one of the World’s leading renewable energy solution providers.
1995: Incorporated by Tulsi Tanti
2001: Sold textile business
2003: Received 1st major order from USA
2005: Went public
2023: Awarded Energy Company of the Year (Renewables) by The Economic Times
Suzlon Energy began after its founder Tulsi Tanti faced great trouble running his textile business due to electricity availability and charges. He figured out that if he could drastically reduce the cost of electricity for its textile business, it would make good profits, so he started Suzlon Energy.
Soon, Tulsi Tanti realised the potential of wind energy and started looking to expand its energy business. In 2001, he sold his entire textile business. In 2005, Suzlon went public and became the first Indian renewable energy company to be listed on the Indian stock market.
Since then, Suzlon has expanded its business to 17 countries and has installed over 20 GW of wind energy globally.
Suzlon has become a vertically integrated and future-ready manufacturer of the industry’s most innovative and efficient wind turbines. Not just manufacturing, but it also provides design, operations, maintenance and services to its customers.
Suzlon had an extremely good IPO and enjoyed a few good years on the stock market. Its primary goal was to capture the global renewable energy market, and it did several acquisitions to achieve that goal. Its downfall started when the global financial crisis hit in 2008. Since then, it has been hard for Suzlon to recover from that hit.
Its share price in December 2007 was ₹387; by the end of 2008, it was ₹62. Its share price fell almost 85% in just a year.
Now that we have a quick overview let’s dive into the captivating share price history of Suzlon Energy Ltd.
