Short Info About Dabur India

Dabur India Ltd: a global FMCG leader with a strong Ayurvedic heritage.

Dabur started as an Ayurvedic medicine company in Kolkata in 1884 by Dr S. K. Burman. He was a doctor who made herbal remedies for diseases like cholera, malaria and constipation. His patients called him and his medicines “Dabur”, a combination of doctor and Burman. He later expanded his business by mass-producing his Ayurvedic formulations. It became a private limited company in 1936 and a public limited company in 1986. It was listed on the NSE on April 28, 1994. Dabur is also a part of many indices, such as Nifty 50, Nifty 100, and Nifty FMCG.

Dabur has a huge portfolio of over 250 herbal and Ayurvedic products in various categories, such as hair care, oral care, health care, skin care, home care, and food. Some of its popular brands are Dabur Chyawanprash, Dabur Honey, Dabur Lal Tail, Dabur Amla Hair Oil, and Real Fruit Juice. It has also won many awards and recognitions for its quality, innovation, governance, and social responsibility.

One of the significant events that affected Dabur’s share price was the demerger of its pharma business in 2003. The company decided to separate its fast-growing FMCG business from its relatively slow-growing pharma business to unlock shareholder value. The demerger resulted in a sharp rise in Dabur’s share price, as investors appreciated the strategic move and expected higher growth prospects for the FMCG business.
