Short Info About Tata Motors

From Locomotives to Luxury Cars: The Remarkable Journey of Tata Motors

Can you think of a car maker in India that has won people’s trust through its quality products, customer service and corporate social responsibility initiatives? It is a part of the multi-billion dollar Tata group named Tata Motors. Most of the businesses we see nowadays, with a history of many decades, start with some other product and, with time, venture into other categories according to consumer demand.

Tata Motors started as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), and later on, by having tie-ups with other companies, it moved on to making commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, sports utility vehicles, etc. At a time when Indian car manufacturers were dependent on foreign countries for technology, Tata Motors launched Tata Indica, India’s first indigenously designed and manufactured car.

1945: Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company was incorporated.

1954:  It entered the commercial vehicle segment by collaborating with Daimler-Benz AG of Germany.

1998: Tata Indica was launched.

2003: The company’s name was changed to Tata Motors.

2008: Tata Motors bought Jaguar Land Rover company from Ford.

A company that started as a domestic company has now, due to innovation, been exporting its quality products to over 125 countries. It has been a part of several indices and won many awards for its quality, safety, environment and customer satisfaction.

Let’s discover how the company has evolved over the years and how its share price has reflected its performance.
