Have you ever heard of Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Bank? If not, then what about ICICI Bank? We have heard its name many times, but are we aware of its history?

ICICI Bank’s financial services offering extends to retail banking, wholesale banking, treasury, life insurance, general insurance, etc. It has won several awards for customer service, corporate governance and social responsibility excellence. ICICI Bank is not a single entity but an amalgam of financial entities with interests in personal and corporate banking, investment banking, private banking, venture capital, insurance, securities broking and asset management.

ICICI took advantage of the RBI’s liberalization of the Indian Banking Industry in 1994, which allowed the entry of new private sector banks in India as a part of the New Economic Policy 1991. It incorporated ICICI Bank as its subsidiary.

1994: ICICI Bank was incorporated.
1997: ICICI Bank was listed on the Indian stock market.

ICICI Bank and ICICI were merged in March 2002, after which the stock has given more than 25% return every year for 6 consecutive years. This increase in share price also shows investors’ confidence in the company. It was India’s first bank to provide Internet banking to its customers.
