Short Info About Hindustan Zinc

Hindustan Zinc: Journey From a PSU to a Private Company

In the case of many products, we are the end users, but even production companies are dependent on various material suppliers to keep their production lines continuously working. Industries use various metals, but they can be acquired only through the proper processing of metallic ores. It gave rise to companies that specifically deal in ore mining and processing work. Hindustan Zinc Ltd. is a company that is involved in the processing of various metals.

January 1966: Hindustan Zinc Ltd. was incorporated.

November 1992: It got listed on the Indian stock market.

It has an experience of over 5 decades in the refinement of ores to produce quality products like zinc, lead, silver and sulphuric acid. It has divided its operations into three categories – mines, smelter and power. Various indices have it as its constituent, such as the Nifty 200, Nifty Metal, etc.

The company’s growth is indirectly dependent on steel production, technological advancements, etc., as the metals produced by it have massive demand in such industries in India and all over the world.

It started as a PSU, but later in 2003, the Government of India sold the majority stake to Sterlite Opportunities and Ventures Limited (Vedanta Group). The company’s privatisation resulted in a share price increment of over 600% within a year.

Let’s see the returns of the company, converted from government-owned to a public company, through the historical share price of Hindustan Zinc Ltd.
