Samvardhana Motherson: Journey From Wiring Harnesses to Rearview Mirrors.

There are many types of partners in a business, but there is a company where the partners are mother and son. They decided to name their company showing the same trust. Motherson is a company that started as a family-owned silver trading company in 1975 and later moved on to auto parts manufacturing.

1986

Motherson Sumi Systems Pvt. Ltd. was incorporated.

1987

The company’s name was changed to Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd.

1993

It got listed on the Indian stock market.

2022

The company’s name was changed to Samvardhana Motherson Int. Ltd.

It is involved in various business categories, such as wiring harnesses, vision systems, modules and polymer products, elastomers, precision modules, etc. It supplies its products to the world through 299+ facilities in 40+ countries. Various indices have it as its constituent, such as Nifty 100, Nifty Auto, etc. It is one of the few Indian companies that supplied parts to the first Maruti plant in 1983.

Due to the acquisition of Wexford Electronics (Ireland) in 2002 they could now supply to customers in Europe in 1/3rd of the time. It resulted in 5 times increase in their share price within a year. They have expanded rapidly through the three-fold growth strategy – organic, collaborations and inorganic.
