May 2010: It became a Maharatna company under the Government of India

It is India’s largest energy conglomerate, with a diversified portfolio of coal, gas, hydro, nuclear, and renewable sources of power generation. It also offers services such as consultancy, power trading, training, rural electrification, ash utilisation, and more.

It has an installed capacity of 73,024 MW with a goal to become a 130 GW company by 2032.
