Grasim Industries: The fabric of India’s growth story.
A company that was incorporated just 10 days after India’s Independence and continued growing alongside India. Grasim Industries Limited started work as a textile manufacturer. As India was growing and not much cotton was available for making clothes, they focused on man-made material to tap this opportunity. It is a part of the Aditya Birla Group, one of the largest business groups in India. Several prominent indices include Grasim, such as NIFTY 50 and many more.
1947: Grasim was incorporated.
2004: UltraTech Cement was acquired from Larsen & Toubro.
2017: Aditya Birla Capital was demerged.
2021: Grasim entered the business of paints.
Grasim started as a textile company and joined the cement production and financial services through its material subsidiaries Ultra Tech Cement and Aditya Birla Capital, respectively. Grasim followed the backward integration business model and became a leading global producer of viscose staple fibre (VSF), the largest chlor-alkali, linen and insulators player in India. It operates in 36 countries across 6 continents.
