Bharat Petroleum Corporation: Fueling India’s Growth

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) is one of India’s leading oil and gas companies, with a legacy of over 70 years. The company was born in 1952 as Bharat Refineries Limited after the nationalization of Burmah Shell. It became Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in 1977 and got listed on NSE in 1995. BPCL is a part of several major indices, such as Nifty 50, Nifty Energy, S&P BSE Oil & Gas, etc.

BPCL operates three refineries in Mumbai, Kochi and Bina, with a total capacity of over 38 MMTPA. The company also invests in Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Assam. BPCL offers a wide range of products and services, including petroleum, natural gas, LPG, lubricants, petrochemicals and renewable energy. The company has a pan-India presence with over 18,000 retail outlets, 6,200 LPG distributors, 123 aviation service stations and 56 LPG bottling plants. BPCL also has a global footprint with subsidiaries and joint ventures in Brazil, Mauritius, Mozambique, UAE, Indonesia and Australia.

BPCL has won several awards and accolades for its performance and innovation. Some of the recent ones are the Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Governance (2020), Platts Global Energy Award for Downstream Company of the Year (2019), Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Award for Oil & Gas Sector (2019), Frost & Sullivan Sustainability 4.0 Award for Sustainable Development (2019) and India Today PSU Award for Best Global Presence (2018).
