Short Info About Asahi Glass

AIS Glass: See More with India’s Leading Glass Company

In the 1980s, Maruti India fulfilled the dream of a car of the middle class. In the process of making this dream come true, it sourced materials for the final product from various Indian companies, which later on became large listed companies, such as Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.

In cases where Indian companies were not technologically equipped, they formed JVs. Asahi India Glass Ltd. was incorporated as a JV between Mr BM Labroo and Family, Asahi Glass Co. Ltd, Japan, and Maruti Suzuki India to provide various glass-related products used in manufacturing the Maruti 800.

1984: Indian Auto Safety Glass Private Ltd was incorporated.
1985: The name of the company was changed to Asahi India Safety Glass Ltd.
2003: The name of the company was changed to Asahi India Glass Ltd.

Asahi India Glass is also known as AIS. Its business is divided into 4 categories: automotive, building & construction, consumer and industrial. Through its 5 manufacturing plants, it holds over 74% market share in the Indian passenger car segment.

Various indices, such as the S&P BSE AllCap, Nifty Total Market, etc., have it as their constituent. In FY 22, it spent 4.53 Crores on Corporate Social Responsibility for disaster management, educational & vocational training, old age homes, women empowerment, healthcare, etc.

In FY 2018 & 2019, even though its profit after tax showed growth compared to previous years, paying higher than expected dividends as a percentage of PAT sent a negative sentiment for future growth plans, due to which its price fell by over 50% within 2 years.
