Hindustan Petroleum: Fueling India’s Growth and Development with Oil, Gas, and Beyond
Crude oil is an essential natural resource. A proper processing infrastructure is required to extract useful petrochemical products from it. Many companies are involved in refining crude oil through 23 refineries in India. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. operates 2 refineries and has an experience of over 7 decades in the industry.
July 1952
Standard Vacuum Refining Company of India Limited was incorporated.
March 1962
The name of the company was changed to ESSO Standard Refining Company of India Limited.
July 1974
The name of the company was changed to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL).
February 1995
It got listed on the Indian stock market.
It is a subsidiary of Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, owned by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India. It is also one of the 13 Maharatna companies. Its business includes refineries, retail (petrol pumps), gas (LPG), lubricants, aviation fuel, natural gas & renewables, etc. It has a history of regular dividend payments to its investors.
