Piramal Enterprises: How a Legacy Business Reinvented Itself for the Future

Look at the history of various companies; they would have started in one business and later, according to the opportunities, expanded in various other industries. Piramal Enterprise Limited started as a pharma company and later expanded its footprints in the financial sector.

April 1947: Indian Schering Ltd. was incorporated.

March 2008: The company’s name was changed from Nicholas Piramal India Ltd to Piramal Healthcare Ltd.

July 2012: The company’s name was changed to Piramal Enterprises Ltd.

It is one of India’s leading diversified non-banking financial companies (NBFC) with over $9 billion in assets, offering a wide range of financial products and solutions across retail and wholesale lending, fund-based platforms and investments. It has two businesses under it, Piramal Capital & Housing Finance Limited (PCHFL), a housing finance company and Piramal Alternatives, a fund management business.

Various indices have it as its constituent, such as Nifty 200, Nifty Midcap 150, etc. The company has bagged several awards for its excellence in innovation, quality, governance, sustainability and social responsibility.
