Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd: Flying High in the Sky of Innovation

Very few companies in India have their roots attached to Princely states of India and played an important support role in World War II. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is one of those interesting companies with a past that will astonish almost everyone.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, previously known as Hindustan Aircraft Limited, was established by Walchand Hirachand in association with the Princely state, Kingdom of Mysore(pre-independence). Later on, it was taken under full control by British Indian Government for British military hardware supplies in Asia during World War II. After the independence of India, its control was handed over to the Government of India.

1940: Hindustan Aircrafts Limited was established

1942: HAL was nationalised by British Indian Government.

1964: HAL joined the consortium formed by the IAF Aircraft Manufacturing Depot, Kanpur. The new entity was called Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.

2018: Listed on the Indian stock market

HAL is involved in the designing and manufacturing of fighter jets, helicopters, jet engines, marine gas turbine engines, avionics, software development, spares supply, overhauling and upgrading of Indian military aircraft. It operates in various industries/categories, such as aerospace, defence, space, civil aviation, and information technology. HAL has received several awards and recognition for its excellence in quality, innovation, corporate governance, and social responsibility.
