Abbott India: From Humble Beginnings to a Pharmaceutical Powerhouse

Since 1950, the population of India has increased from 357 million to over 1.4 billion. Many factors are responsible for it, but one of the main factors is the easy availability of life-saving medicines. It increased the life expectancy of people & reduced the number of infant mortality, thus increasing the population at an astonishing speed. Abbott India Ltd. is involved in the process of manufacturing medicines with an experience of over 7 decades.

Boots Pure Drug Co. (India) Ltd. was incorporated.

October 1985
The name of the company was changed to Knoll Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

July 2002
The name of the company was changed to Abbott India Ltd.

It is a subsidiary of Abbott Laboratories USA, manufacturing products for the Indian market and exporting to Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives & Bhutan. It has earned ₹ 30.98 Crore through imports in FY23. Its portfolio has 125+ products, which include Arachitol, Cremaffin Plus, Heptral, Thyronorm, Digene, etc. Most of the product demand is fulfilled through 2 manufacturing facilities in Himachal Pradesh & Goa.

Various indices, such as the Nifty Healthcare Index, Nifty MNC, etc., have it as their constituent. Under Corporate Social Responsibility, it focuses on healthcare & education with a budget of ₹ 19.36 Crores set aside for the FY 2024.
